This 420 SF ADU is located on a corner lot in the King neighborhood in NE Portland.  The main house on the property is a distinctive former grocery store, so we worked to create an equally distinctive and assertive design for the small ADU.

The one-bedroom ADU has a loft over the bathroom and bedroom located to the rear of the building, and a generous, bright, south-facing living/dining area in the front. A compact kitchen along the West wall completes the front great-room.  The floors are polished concrete, the ceiling of the bedroom features exposed Douglas Fir framing and decking, and a large built-in bookcase on the back wall of the living room compliments the front window. The exterior is 3" exposure fiber cement with hand selected, salvaged Douglas Fir cladding inside the recessed front porch.
