SE Brooklyn Remodel

The project scope is divided into two phases, the first (completed) includes a remodel of the kitchen and finishing the basement, currently accessible through the garage. The second phase is set to include a new open stair to the basement, reconfiguration of the current bedrooms to become a full master suite, guest bedroom and a powder room.

The kitchen was reconfigured to be functional and open for an avid cook. Two sets of three large casement windows open to the south, and new French doors open to an outdoor deck and the large backyard. A walnut topped island provides a large, open prep space, storage for pots and pans, and also buffers the main kitchen from family traffic. A 36" range with a built-in shelf in the backsplash provides a generous cooking station, and a peninsula with seating allows a ready connection to the dining and living areas.

The basement was finished to include a new full-bath and two bedrooms. For the first phase one of the bedrooms is used as office space for a professional service of the owner, with the family room space designed as a reception/waiting area. The second bedroom is intended as a guest bedroom. At the second phase, the basement will be more directly connected to the upstairs living area and it is planned for the two kids to move into the basement bedrooms and more direct access to the basement family room
